Brain surgery breakthrough? Two-Drug combo may prevent Post-Op confusion

NCT ID NCT07475156

Summary

This study tested whether adding melatonin pills to a standard sedative infusion works better than the sedative alone at preventing post-operative delirium (confusion and disorientation) after open brain surgery. One hundred patients undergoing brain surgery were randomly assigned to receive either the sedative alone or the sedative plus melatonin. Researchers measured how many patients experienced delirium after surgery and how long they stayed in intensive care.
