Scientists probe the Brain's 'Self-Knowledge' switch in dementia

NCT ID NCT06794580

Summary

This study aimed to understand why some people with Alzheimer's or frontotemporal dementia lose awareness of their own condition, a symptom called anosognosia. Researchers studied 77 participants, including patients and healthy older adults, using brain scans and EEG tests to measure brain structure and activity. The goal was to find biological markers for this loss of self-awareness and explore the possibility of future brain-computer interface tools.
