Zapping the brain to calm a chaotic voice
NCT ID NCT05095740
Summary
This study is testing whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique can help people with laryngeal dystonia, a rare neurological disorder that causes involuntary spasms in the voice box, leading to a strained or breathy voice. Researchers will use a device called rTMS to deliver magnetic pulses to the brain area controlling the voice box, hoping to calm overactive signals and improve voice control. The study will compare the real treatment to a sham (fake) treatment in 25 participants to see if it makes a meaningful difference in voice quality and effort.
