Brain pacemaker tested as last hope for incurable depression

NCT ID NCT01798407

Summary

This small, early-stage study is testing whether a surgically implanted brain stimulation device can help people with severe depression that hasn't responded to any other treatments, including electroshock therapy. Six adults will have electrodes placed in a specific brain area thought to be involved in depression. The main goal is to see if this approach is safe and if it significantly reduces depression symptoms six months after the device is turned on.
