Brain surgery trial offers hope for untreatable opioid addiction

NCT ID NCT05903495

Summary

This study tested whether deep brain stimulation could help people with severe opioid addiction that hasn't responded to other treatments. Researchers implanted a device to deliver electrical pulses to specific brain areas involved in addiction and reward. They measured safety, opioid use, and changes in craving and brain function over 12 weeks.
