Brain mapping breakthrough aims to tame uncontrollable tremors

NCT ID NCT07231302

Summary

This study tested a new surgical method for placing deep brain stimulation electrodes to treat severe movement disorders like tremor, dystonia, and ataxia. Researchers used advanced brain scans and recordings of nerve cell activity to guide the placement of electrodes in a specific brain area called the dentate nucleus. The goal was to improve the precision of the surgery to better control symptoms in 20 adults whose conditions did not respond to medication or therapy.
