Brain zap test could make radiation safer for tumor patients

NCT ID NCT07415668

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a brain mapping technique called navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (nTMS) can help doctors plan radiation therapy better for people with brain metastases near the motor cortex. About 30 patients who had surgery for a brain tumor will get both a standard radiation plan and one adjusted using the nTMS map. The goal is to see if the map-based plan can deliver high radiation to the tumor while reducing exposure to healthy brain tissue that controls movement.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Navigated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (nTMS) device

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could help doctors plan radiation more precisely, potentially reducing damage to brain areas that control movement.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply widely. The technique may not improve outcomes or could be impractical in some cases.
