First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study compared botulinum toxin (BoNT-A) injections to prilocaine for relieving pain in myofascial pain syndrome, a condition causing muscle knots and pain. Thirty-eight adults with symptoms for over 3 months were randomly assigned to receive either BoNT-A or prilocaine injections into their trigger points. Pain levels were measured before treatment and at 2 and 6 weeks after using standard pain scales.
