Botox-Like shots may calm shaky hands in essential tremor
NCT ID NCT04766723
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a single injection of botulinum toxin (NT 201) can reduce hand tremors in people with essential tremor. 78 participants received either the drug or a placebo, and neither they nor the researchers knew who got what. The main goal was to measure tremor improvement using a wearable sensor and a clinical rating scale.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Botulinum toxin (NT 201, also known as incobotulinumtoxinA or Xeomin)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a new treatment option to reduce hand tremors in people with essential tremor.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial with only 78 participants. The treatment may not work better than placebo, and botulinum toxin can cause muscle weakness or other side effects.
