Can a botanical extract heal your skin barrier? new study investigates
NCT ID NCT07645339
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a plant extract added to skincare creams can help repair the skin's natural barrier. Researchers will temporarily damage the skin of 35 healthy Chinese women aged 35-60 using tape strips, then apply creams with or without the extract for 14 days. They will measure how quickly the skin heals by checking redness, dryness, and moisture levels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
botanical extract in a topical skincare formulation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could lead to a new skincare ingredient that helps repair dry or damaged skin more effectively.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early study on healthy volunteers, not patients. The extract may not work better than the placebo, and results may not apply to real-world skin conditions.
