Single surgery dental implants: bone ring technique could cut treatment time in half

NCT ID NCT07619846

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a surgical technique called the Bone Ring Technique (BRT) for placing dental implants in people with severe bone loss in the upper jaw. Normally, this requires two separate surgeries over many months, but BRT combines sinus lifting and implant placement into one procedure using a small piece of the patient's own chin bone. Ten adults with very thin jawbone (4 mm or less) will be followed for 6 months to see if the implants stay stable and how much new bone grows.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Bone Ring Technique (autogenous bone ring from chin)

What this could lead to

If successful, this single-stage procedure could replace the traditional two-stage approach, saving patients months of healing time and reducing the number of surgeries needed.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Risks include sinus membrane damage, implant failure, or complications from harvesting bone from the chin.
