New pill could reduce blood draws for rare blood cancer patients

Summary

This study tested an experimental pill called bomedemstat in 20 adults with polycythemia vera, a rare blood cancer that causes too many red blood cells. The goal was to see if the drug could safely lower red blood cell levels without needing frequent blood removal (phlebotomy). Participants who benefited could continue treatment for up to a year.
