New blood rules for tiny hearts: can less transfusion save more lives?

NCT ID NCT05405426

Summary

This study aims to find the best way to give blood transfusions to young children on a life support machine called ECMO. Researchers are comparing two methods: one that gives blood only when there's a clear sign of bleeding or low oxygen, and another that uses a standard blood level threshold. The goal is to see if the more restrictive method leads to better organ recovery and long-term brain development in these very sick children.
