Blood thinner safety during polyp removal put to the test
NCT ID NCT07185295
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether it's safe to continue taking blood-thinning medication during the removal of colon polyps. About 481 adults on blood thinners will be randomly assigned to either keep taking their medication or stop temporarily before the procedure. Researchers will track serious bleeding within 30 days to see which approach is safer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
anticoagulant therapy (blood thinners)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that continuing blood thinners during polyp removal is safe, reducing the risk of blood clots and strokes for patients.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 4 trial, but results may not apply to all patients, and there is still a risk of bleeding or other complications.
