Simple blood test could spare patients from unnecessary scans for dangerous condition

NCT ID NCT06609668

Summary

This study is testing whether a blood test measuring a protein called thrombomodulin can accurately tell which patients with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) also have a more serious condition called giant cell arteritis (GCA). Researchers will enroll 78 adults over 50 with PMR to see if this blood marker can identify those who need further imaging tests and those who don't. The goal is to develop a simpler way to screen for GCA, which requires stronger treatment to prevent serious complications like stroke or blindness.
