Could older blood in transfusions put trauma patients at greater risk?

NCT ID NCT07341139

Summary

This study looks back at medical records to see if the length of time donated blood is stored before being given to severely injured patients affects their chances of survival and recovery. Researchers will analyze data from about 300 trauma patients who needed large blood transfusions. They want to find out if receiving blood stored for longer periods is linked to a higher risk of death within 28 days or to developing other serious health problems.
