Simple cuff training shows promise for Post-Stroke arm recovery
NCT ID NCT06859905
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a rehabilitation technique called blood flow restriction training (BFRT) in 70 stroke survivors with arm weakness on one side. Participants did low-intensity exercises while wearing a cuff that partially restricted blood flow to the affected arm. The goal was to see if this approach could improve arm motor function, strength, and ability to perform daily activities. The study is now complete, and results may help guide future stroke rehabilitation programs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
blood flow restriction training (a rehabilitation technique using a cuff to partially restrict blood flow during low-intensity exercise)
What this could lead to
If effective, this training could offer a simple, low-cost way to improve arm movement and daily living skills in stroke survivors.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study without a control group or long-term follow-up, so results may not be widely applicable. The training also carries risks like discomfort or bruising from the cuff.
