Mushroom extract BLEX 404 joins chemo in new lung cancer trial

NCT ID NCT05764928

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This early-phase trial tests whether adding BLEX 404, a liquid extract from maitake mushrooms, to standard chemotherapy (pemetrexed + cisplatin) can help people with advanced non-small cell lung cancer that has no EGFR mutation. The study will enroll 32 adults aged 20–70 who have not had prior treatment. Researchers will first find the safest dose, then check if the combination shrinks tumors. The mushroom extract is thought to boost the immune system, but this is still experimental.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

BLEX 404 (a mushroom extract from maitake) combined with pemetrexed and cisplatin chemotherapy

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new combination therapy that boosts the immune system to better fight lung cancer.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase 1/2 trial with only 32 people, so it's too soon to know if it's safe or effective. The mushroom extract may not add benefit over standard chemo and could cause side effects.
