Outdated eye test norms get a modern update for asian adults
NCT ID NCT07257341
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This pilot study will measure the normal range of binocular single vision—the ability to use both eyes together as one—in 30 healthy Asian adults aged 21 to 59 in Singapore. Current standards are based on a small 1974 study of Caucasians, which may not apply to today's Singaporean population. Participants will undergo a single vision test using a special machine to map their field of single vision, helping create more accurate local reference values.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could provide more accurate reference values for diagnosing binocular vision problems in Asian populations, improving eye care in Singapore.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study with only 30 participants, so results may not fully represent the broader population. It is observational and does not test any treatment.
