New drug combo takes on tough lung cancer in early trial

NCT ID NCT05990738

First seen Feb 26, 2026

Summary

This early-phase trial tests a new antibody-like drug called BI 764532 (Obrixtamig) combined with standard chemotherapy in about 69 adults with advanced small cell lung cancer that has returned after platinum-based treatment. The main goal is to find the highest safe dose of the combination. Researchers will also watch for tumor shrinkage and how long any response lasts.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

BI 764532 (Obrixtamig) plus topotecan or other single-agent chemotherapy

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new combination treatment for small cell lung cancer that has stopped responding to standard chemotherapy.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 1 trial with only 69 participants, focused on safety and dosing. It is too small to prove effectiveness, and side effects from the combination may limit its use.
