New scan combo could spare seniors from unnecessary steroid side effects

NCT ID NCT07010484

Summary

This study aims to improve how doctors diagnose polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR), a painful inflammatory condition common in older adults. Researchers are testing whether combining PET scans with MRI imaging can provide more accurate diagnosis than current methods. Better diagnosis could help patients avoid unnecessary steroid treatments that often cause significant side effects.
