Heart valve surgery breakthrough? new technique aims to stop dangerous clots

Summary
This study is testing if a special technique during a heart valve replacement surgery (called TAVI) can reduce the risk of blood clots forming on the new valve. It will compare the new 'optimized expansion' method against the standard procedure in 620 patients with severe aortic stenosis who do not have atrial fibrillation. The main goal is to see if the new technique leads to less valve leaflet thickening at a 3-month checkup.
