New breathing tube removal method aims to prevent lung collapse

NCT ID NCT05526053

Summary

This study compared two approaches for removing breathing tubes from ICU patients who were ready to breathe on their own. Researchers tested whether keeping slight air pressure in the lungs during the breathing test and avoiding suction during tube removal would prevent lung collapse and lead to more successful removals. They used lung ultrasound scans to measure lung aeration in over 1,700 patients across multiple hospitals.
