Could Low-Oxygen blood storage ease the burden of lifelong transfusions?

NCT ID NCT07055503

Summary

This study is observing adults with transfusion-dependent thalassemia who are already receiving blood stored in a special low-oxygen system as part of their regular care. The goal is to see if this new storage method helps reduce how much blood they need, improves their energy levels, and lessens complications like iron overload. Researchers will compare data from when patients received standard blood to data from when they receive the low-oxygen stored blood.
