First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study follows 643 children who were born before 32 weeks of pregnancy. Their mothers received either a full or half dose of betamethasone (a steroid) before birth to help the babies' lungs. Now at age 5, researchers are testing the children's thinking and learning skills to see if the lower dose is just as safe for brain development. The goal is to find the best steroid dose that helps without causing long-term harm.
