Researchers track steroid's journey from mom to baby to fight newborn breathing crisis

NCT ID NCT01854840

Summary

This study aimed to understand how a steroid drug called betamethasone, given to pregnant women at risk of early delivery, passes through the placenta to the baby. Researchers followed 127 women to measure drug levels in mother and baby and see how this transfer relates to the severity of a serious newborn lung condition called Hyaline Membrane Disease. The goal was to gather knowledge to help optimize future dosing for better prevention.
