Could a common supplement prevent stomach tumors?
NCT ID NCT06272500
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether betaine hydrochloride, a dietary supplement, can safely lower high gastrin levels in people with autoimmune gastritis. High gastrin is linked to an increased risk of stomach tumors. Sixty participants will receive either betaine or a placebo before meals for up to three months. The goal is to see if this simple approach can reduce tumor risk.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

betaine hydrochloride
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to lower gastrin levels and reduce the risk of stomach tumors in people with autoimmune gastritis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 participants. The supplement may not lower gastrin effectively, and long-term benefits or risks are unknown.
