NCT ID NCT05043025
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tested two different head positions—neck extension and a modified ramped position—to see which helps doctors more accurately locate the cricothyroid membrane in obese patients. The cricothyroid membrane is the target for an emergency breathing tube when a patient cannot be intubated or oxygenated. 116 obese adults participated, and ultrasound was used to check accuracy. The goal is to improve success rates for this life-saving procedure.
