First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested two different head positions (neck stretched back vs. a slightly raised position) to see which helps doctors locate the cricothyroid membrane more accurately in obese patients. The cricothyroid membrane is the spot where an emergency breathing tube is placed when a patient cannot breathe. 116 obese adults took part, and ultrasound was used to check if the spot was found correctly.
