Beet it! could a simple juice speed up recovery after major surgery?

NCT ID NCT05133024

Summary

This study is testing whether drinking concentrated beetroot juice for a week before colon surgery can help patients' digestive systems 'wake up' faster afterward. It aims to reduce a common and uncomfortable complication where the bowels temporarily stop working, which can delay recovery and extend hospital stays. About 170 adult patients having planned laparoscopic colon surgery will be randomly assigned to drink either the active beetroot juice or a placebo version.
