Old vaccine tested as new shield for travelers against TB
NCT ID NCT04453293
Summary
This study aimed to see if a single dose of the BCG vaccine could prevent tuberculosis (TB) infection in healthy adults traveling to countries with high rates of TB. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either the BCG vaccine or a placebo (inactive shot) before their trip. The goal was to measure if the vaccine reduced the rate of new TB infections, as detected by a blood test, after travel. The trial was terminated early and only enrolled 16 people, far fewer than the planned 2000.
