New balloon device aims to keep ureters open, reduce repeat surgeries

NCT ID NCT07020520

Summary

This study is testing a new device called the Optilume Drug-Coated Balloon to treat ureteral strictures, which are narrowings in the tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder. The main goal is to see if using this balloon, which is coated with a drug called paclitaxel, is safe and can successfully open the stricture and keep it open for at least six months without needing another procedure. The study will enroll about 60 adults with a single, short stricture.
