Simple tricks to ease kids' pain during IV removal tested in new study

NCT ID NCT06371612

First seen Feb 13, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tested two simple, non-drug methods to reduce pain and fear in children aged 6 to 9 when a peripheral IV line is taken out. One group squeezed a ball as a distraction, another used an alcohol-free silicone spray to gently remove the adhesive tape, and a third group received standard care. The goal was to see which approach works best for making this common hospital procedure less stressful for young patients.
