Could better foot care keep seniors on their feet?
NCT ID NCT07758764
First seen Aug 11, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding weekly foot health workshops—covering minimalist footwear, foot massages, and re-learning walking and posture—to standard balance training can improve mobility and reduce fall risk in older adults living in nursing homes. Participants will be randomly assigned to either balance workshops alone or balance workshops plus the foot health program. The main goal is to see if the combined approach leads to better mobility, measured by the Timed Up and Go test, compared to balance training alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A combination of minimalist footwear, foot massages, and workshops to re-learn walking and posture, plus balance workshops.
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this program could offer a simple, non-drug way to reduce falls and improve mobility in older adults, potentially lowering hospitalizations and deaths.
- What could go wrong
- The study is relatively small and the intervention is behavioral, so results may vary. It may not be effective for all residents, and the benefits might not last long after the workshops end.
