Rare infection risks in vulnerable patients revealed

NCT ID NCT03377530

First seen Jun 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study aimed to identify risk factors for severe infections caused by Bacillus bacteria, which rarely cause disease in healthy people but can be dangerous for those with weakened immune systems, including preterm infants. Researchers analyzed data from 11 patients with confirmed Bacillus sepsis or meningitis to measure how often the infection becomes severe and how contamination occurs. The findings help clarify when this germ is a true threat versus a harmless contaminant.
