New drug combo offers hope for rare blood cancer patients without chemo

NCT ID NCT03620903

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests a chemotherapy-free combination of three drugs (bortezomib, rituximab, ibrutinib) in 53 people with newly diagnosed Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, a rare blood cancer. The goal is to see if this approach can control the disease for at least one year with fewer side effects than standard chemo. Participants receive the drugs in cycles, and researchers track how long the cancer stays under control and how well patients respond.
