Blood test may reveal if allergy treatment is effective

NCT ID NCT06876506

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study aims to develop a blood test that measures B regulatory cells, which may indicate whether allergen immunotherapy (allergy shots) is successfully reducing allergic reactions. Researchers will study 80 adults with pollen or venom allergies who are starting routine allergy shots, along with a control group without allergies. Participants will give blood samples and fill out quality-of-life questionnaires to see if changes in these immune cells match improvements in allergy symptoms.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Allergen specific immunotherapy (allergy shots)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simple blood test that tells doctors whether allergy shots are working, helping personalize treatment.

What could go wrong

This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. The blood test may not reliably predict treatment success, and results may not apply to all allergies.
