New combo shows promise for Tough-to-Treat blood cancers

NCT ID NCT01869114

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tested a combination of two drugs, azacitidine and sirolimus, in 57 adults with high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that came back or didn't respond to standard treatment. The goal was to see if the combination could improve blood cell counts or lead to remission. The approach aims to control the disease rather than cure it, as ongoing management is typically needed.
