Virtual reality goggles may calm chemotherapy patients

NCT ID NCT07152938

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether using augmented virtual reality (AVR) during chemotherapy can help reduce pain, stress, and anxiety while boosting self-confidence. 150 adult cancer patients in the West Bank were split into two groups: one received standard care, and the other used AVR before and during their chemo session. Researchers measured changes right after the session to see if AVR made a difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

augmented virtual reality (AVR)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to ease pain, stress, and anxiety during chemotherapy sessions.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 150 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. The effects were measured right after the session, so long-term benefits are unknown.
