Breast cancer breakthrough? new study tests skipping surgery for early lesions

NCT ID NCT07245316

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 30, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at whether women with certain non-invasive breast conditions (like atypical ductal hyperplasia or ductal carcinoma in situ) can safely avoid surgery and instead take hormone-blocking medication (endocrine therapy) for 5 years. The goal is to see if this approach keeps breast cancer from coming back in the same breast. The study involves 340 women aged 35 and older whose biopsy shows hormone-sensitive, HER2-negative cells.
