New study aims to kick opioids out of carpal tunnel recovery
NCT ID NCT03867539
First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study tests whether a long-acting local anesthetic called Exparel, combined with education about pain management, can help people avoid using opioids after carpal tunnel release surgery. About 64 adults with carpal tunnel syndrome will be enrolled. Half will get Exparel and education, while the other half gets standard numbing medicine, education, and opioids. The goal is to see if the Exparel group has less pain and uses fewer opioids in the first three days after surgery.
