New drug trial offers hope for debilitating mast cell disease symptoms

Summary
This study is testing whether the drug avapritinib can better control symptoms in adults with indolent systemic mastocytosis whose symptoms are not well-managed by current standard treatments. It's a Phase 2 trial where some participants receive the drug and others receive a placebo, along with standard supportive care, to compare effectiveness and safety. The main goal is to see if avapritinib significantly reduces the total burden of disease symptoms compared to placebo.
