New antibody shows promise against dengue in early trial

NCT ID NCT06799741

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested a new drug called AV-1, which is a lab-made antibody, to see if it can prevent or treat dengue virus type 3 infection. Eighty-five healthy adults received either a low, medium, or high dose of AV-1 or a placebo, and were then exposed to a controlled dengue virus. Researchers measured safety, side effects, and how well the drug blocked the virus.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

AV-1 (a lab-made antibody given by IV)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a preventive treatment for dengue, a serious mosquito-borne disease.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase trial with only 85 healthy adults, not patients. The results may not apply to real-world dengue infections, and the antibody may not work or could cause side effects.
