Robot ventilators tested to get patients breathing on their own faster

NCT ID NCT04593810

Summary

This study tested whether a new, automated ventilator system could help patients in intensive care breathe on their own sooner than with standard ventilator settings. Researchers enrolled 1,201 adult ICU patients who needed breathing support and randomly assigned them to use either the automated system or standard care. The main goal was to see if the automated system reduced the total time patients needed the ventilator and improved the quality of their breathing.
