Brainstem implant gives hope to children who cannot hear

NCT ID NCT02310399

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study is testing a special hearing device called an auditory brainstem implant (ABI) in up to 20 children who are deaf because they are missing the inner ear or the hearing nerve. The implant sends sound signals directly to the brainstem, bypassing the missing parts. Researchers will monitor safety and measure how well the children learn to hear and understand sounds over time.
