Can a daily eye drop stop Kids' eyesight from worsening?
NCT ID NCT07028827
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 3 study tests whether low-dose atropine eye drops (0.025% and 0.05%) can slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children and teens aged 3 to 17. About 234 participants across Europe will use the drops once nightly for 2 years. The goal is to see if these drops can keep eyesight from getting worse, reducing the need for stronger glasses later.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- atropine eye drops (0.025% and 0.05%)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a safe, effective daily eye drop to slow or stop nearsightedness from getting worse in children and teens.
- What could go wrong
- This is a phase 3 trial, but results may vary by child. Atropine can cause side effects like light sensitivity or blurry near vision. Long-term benefits beyond 2 years are not yet known.
