New electric pulse device aims to fix irregular heartbeat during heart surgery

Summary

This study tests a new device that uses short electric pulses to treat atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) during planned heart surgery. Sixteen adults who need heart surgery will receive this treatment along with a standard maze procedure. Researchers will check safety within 30 days and see if the heartbeat stays normal for 6 months without needing rhythm drugs.
