New heart device tested with lighter sedation to prevent strokes

NCT ID NCT06049615

Summary

This study is testing whether a device that closes off a part of the heart to prevent strokes can be safely implanted using lighter sedation instead of full general anesthesia. It will involve 300 adults with atrial fibrillation who are at high risk of stroke but have difficulty taking long-term blood thinners. The main goal is to see if the procedure is just as safe and effective when patients are more awake during the implantation.
