Is heart rhythm relief all in your head? study tests real procedure vs. fake

NCT ID NCT05119231

Summary

This study aims to find out if a common heart procedure for atrial fibrillation (AFib) truly reduces symptoms, or if the improvement is a powerful placebo effect. It will compare the standard procedure, which electrically isolates veins in the heart, against a carefully designed sham (fake) procedure. About 260 adults with symptomatic AFib will be randomly assigned to get either the real treatment or the sham, and their symptom relief and quality of life will be tracked for a year.
