Simple checklist could replace uncomfortable heart scans for thousands
NCT ID NCT03455673
Summary
This study tested whether a simple checklist called the ATE score could safely identify patients who don't need an uncomfortable throat ultrasound to check for heart clots before a common heart procedure. Researchers enrolled over 3,000 patients scheduled for atrial fibrillation ablation to see if patients with a zero ATE score truly had no heart clots, potentially avoiding unnecessary scans. The goal was to confirm if this score is reliable enough to guide safer, more comfortable pre-procedure planning.
